A Bit of History

Georgetown Light, also known as North Island Light, once stood at the entrance to Winyah Bay in Georgetown. Constructed in 1811, it played a crucial role in guiding ships entering the busy port. Unfortunately, the original lighthouse was destroyed during the Civil War, and the current structure is a replica built in 1986. Georgetown Light stands as a testament to the historical significance of the area’s maritime activities.
