A Bit of History

Port Austin Lighthouse, often referred to as the “Tip of the Thumb” Lighthouse, stands at the entrance of Saginaw Bay on Lake Huron. Built in 1878, the distinctive white cylindrical tower with a black lantern room provides important guidance for ships navigating the waters near Port Austin. Accessible by boat, the lighthouse is a popular destination for visitors and offers panoramic views of Lake Huron.
