A Bit of History

Fort Gratiot Lighthouse, established in 1829, stands as Michigan’s oldest lighthouse overlooking the entrance to the St. Clair River in Port Huron. The current white tower, with a distinctive black lantern room, was constructed in 1829 and stands at 86 feet. Fort Gratiot Lighthouse has played a vital role in guiding vessels through the waters connecting Lake Huron and the St. Clair River, and its historical significance is complemented by the adjacent Fort Gratiot Light Station County Park.
