A Bit of History

Portland Breakwater Light, commonly known as Bug Light, stands at the entrance of the Portland Harbor in South Portland, Maine. Built in 1875, this charming lighthouse served as a complement to the nearby Portland Head Lighthouse. Its squat, square tower and red roof make it an iconic maritime landmark. Although no longer an active aid to navigation, Bug Light remains a beloved symbol of the region’s seafaring history, welcoming visitors to enjoy its scenic views.
