A Bit of History

Saint Simons Lighthouse, located on Saint Simons Island, is a historic beacon that has served as a navigational aid since 1810. The current tower, a white brick structure with black markings, was constructed in 1872 and stands at 104 feet. Overlooking the entrance to St. Simons Sound, the lighthouse has played a crucial role in guiding vessels into the port of Brunswick. The adjacent Keeper’s Dwelling houses the Maritime Center and Museum, offering visitors an opportunity to explore the maritime heritage of the region. Saint Simons Lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation, serving both commercial and recreational vessels in the waters off the Georgia coast.
