A Bit of History

Guard Island Lighthouse, situated in Southeast Alaska near Ketchikan, has illuminated the waters of Tongass Narrows since 1904. This historic maritime beacon, with its white tower and red roof, has played a crucial role in guiding vessels through the intricate passages of the Inside Passage. Although automated in 1971, Guard Island Lighthouse remains an enduring symbol of Alaska’s coastal heritage, inviting visitors to appreciate its historical significance and the stunning natural beauty that surrounds it.
