Dovercourt high and low lighthouses were built to replace the previous brick built High and Low lighthouses, when shifting sands in the channel made both these earlier structures redundant.
The two Dovercourt lights acted as Range Lights in Victorian times to guide ships around Landguard Point.
They were decomissioned in 1917 and restored to encourage tourism in the 1980s.
