Lundy Island lies at the mouth of the Bristol Channel. Surrounded by reefs of razor sharp rocks that make an approach to the island difficult, the island measures just 5km in length by 1km in width but has some 30 km of dangerous coastline.
The 17m tall North lighthouse was constructed in 1897 and together with its sister to the south was intended to replace the Old Lighthouse at the summit of Chapel Hill which was frequently obscured by fog.
The North Light has a range of 31km and produces a quick white flash every 15 seconds.
